Visit Number Eight

I'm headed to Dublin again! My friend Ben half-jokingly said I should just move there already.

Having spent a month in Galway several years ago, I wanted to experience Dublin over an extended period as well. While there I plan to do as much music as I can stand, including seeing if I can find tutors for whistle and bodhrán. I'm also to attend the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Drogheda (say that 10 times fast). It's an enormous 10-day traditional music festival, and I've heard about it for a few years now.

I'll be working a bit while I'm there, because I can't just abandon my company for a month. Thanks to the internet and adjacent technology, it should be pretty seamless to my clients.

At Dulles airport now. I got here super early because I had to drop off my car for repair before the shop closed. Getting hit last week by an inattentive driver was the first inconvenience I had to deal with, but as many already know, no injuries, and metal can be fixed. And it's being fixed. Second inconvenience is the HVAC in my home likely needs to be replaced when I return, but it should hold on until then. Ah, homeownership.

I've come to realize that although I'm a good solo traveler, it can be lonely, particularly the airport/flying part of it. I have friends and activities I'm looking forward to when I arrive in Dublin, but until I get there, it's pretty quiet around me and chatty in my brain.

The first night of the second round of Democratic debates will happen just about the time I'm boarding, so I'll miss most of it. I'm sure my Facebook feed will be buzzing after I land tomorrow.

I will try to update this blog as I go along. Join me on my adventure!
