I was determined to find the open-air market on Saturday, so I ventured out around 11 in the morning, this time with the correct street name. Turns out I was off by about a block last weekend, and, as I was soon to find out, that makes all the difference. Maybe it's just the time of year, but it was not "hundreds" of stalls, but really more like a few dozen, so a block and a half took care of it.
And then, wandering around Shop Street, more music is to be heard.
And where else can you see a ueillian piper busking for change?
The afternoon was spent watching a DVD on my laptop ("Forgetting Sarah Marshall," a funny flick), reading, baking, and napping, as any good Saturday afternoon should be.
In the evening it was off to the Crane for some of the live stuff, and there was a more subdued but crowded session going on upstairs. I met some visitors from other parts of Galway and beyond, including a French bodhran player who lent me her instrument when she got tired of playing. I'm beginning to notice some of the regulars there, and they are beginning to notice me.
