And We're Back

After planning this latest trip over 2 months ago, it's finally here: Paul's first and my fifth trip to Ireland. We landed in Dublin yesterday morning, and after having a bit of breakfast at the airport, hopped on a bus that took us close enough to walk to our hotel near Trinity College. A very eclectic place, with lobby furniture that looks like it was removed from an Alice in Wonderland set, The Trinity Capital Hotel is quirky but comfortable.

Our room is small but adequate, and the only scenery out the window is the Dublin Fire Brigade staging ground for equipment. Yesterday we got to watch them check one of their ladder trucks. Maybe it'd be more exciting if it were summer.

Yesterday Paul wanted to get a "lay of the land," so we walked around O'Connell Street, Temple Bar, and some shopping areas. Grabbed lunch at a very nice little café restaurant near our hotel, then did a short tour of Dublin City Hall, at which point my jetlag kicked in and I had to head back for a nap. Paul went in search of the botanic gardens, but didn't find them. We may look for them together today.

Evening brought us dinner with now-Dublin-native Mae, who pointed us to some culinary delights she's found. We settled into Skinflint, with truly amazing pizzas and accoutrements and some nice local beers. It was great seeing Mae (who I'd met 2 trips ago through our mutual friend Sue), and introducing her to Paul.

Back to the hotel, a little work check-in via email, a little figuring out our phone plans (texts to each other's phone cost; calls are free), and to bed for nearly 10 hours. I think we're mostly caught up with the sleep now.

Today we explore some more!
