Got up nice and late today, and slept off most of my jetlag. Skipped breakfast altogether, so foraged for lunch as my first meal. Oh, how I wish I could have made a better choice. First I went to the train station to get some maps and see where I might want to go today. I should have gone. Instead, I decided to grab a bite to eat across the street from the station.
There was a Subway, and then there was a local shop with a line out the door. Which would you choose? The place with the line out the door, of course. Which is what I did. It was called something like "Pig and Cow" and it billed itself as a "New York Deli." Stop! Turn around! Don't go in there! Oh, but look, the locals are eating there--it must be good. And it was. I had a chicken wrap. I watched her make it lovingly and quickly and deliciously, using fresh ingredients. That chicken? It sure
looked good, "look" being the operative word.
Having finished my lovely meal, I decided to wander around a part of Dublin I'd never seen before, and picked up a few things at different stores. Nothing too fancy. I'd found a music store right around the corner from my hotel earlier in the day and bought a couple of new tippers for my bodhran. They're lovely. But I digress.
The pain began mid afternoon. And got worse. And worse. The upchucking began around 7. I'm still not feeling great, but at least the upchucking has ceased. A friend kindly brought by some peppermint tea, which was helpful and delicious and soothing. It's 11:30 pm now, and I think I will just try to sleep off the rest of whatever I got from that chicken wrap.
I leave you with pictures of garbage, both legal and, apparently, illegal. I think what's going on is that times are tough, and you have to pay for your garbage to be collected. The illegal garbage was all along a street that seemed to be full of low-income housing, where paying for one's garbage collection is not high on the list of priorities during a recession.
