After a good night's sleep, I woke up, had a cup of coffee, showered, and went out foraging for breakfast. For a few euros, you can eat just fine, and I settled in with yogurt, an apple turnover, and some orange juice to take back to my room. I laid low pretty much the entire day, walking around in the afternoon and evening under pleasantly mild weather. I'd put my stomach health at about 85%, and hopefully by tomorrow I'll be good as new and ready to immerse myself in the trad music!
I'm usually taking tons of pictures, but this trip doesn't seem to be lending itself to major photo exploration. Which is fine. I'm just enjoying being here. For some reason Ralph McTell's "Streets of London" has been wafting through my mind all day, but I've been substituting "Dublin" for "London." Strange. I guess I'm just seeing a bit more of the hard times that are evident in small things, like taxis who turn their cars off, put them in neutral, and move them forward in queue with their own muscles to save on gas that would have otherwise been wasted idling.
There are also several "occupy" encampments around the city, mostly in front of banks. Maybe I'm making more of it than it is, but when you're a visitor, and you're traveling alone, you notice things.
Outside the Palace Bar in the Temple Bar area, several quotes are embedded in the sidewalk. Here's my favorite of the four:
