Hello...Philadelphia?

Bad weather hitting the east coast put a damper on my best-laid plans. After a delayed flight from DC arrived too late to make the connecting flight to Dublin, and after another hour in the airport finding out what the fix was, I took a cab to my parents' place in Jenkintown and called it a night.

To my chagrin, they wouldn't let me take my checked luggage, into which I'd carefully packed my new bodhran, an Irish drum. A fellow traveller from Dublin commented, "Let them know there will be repercussions!" Indeed.

So I'll be in the States another day, and I get an unexpected visit with my family...so not all bad after all. I've a feeling this is a good way to approach the whole trip: disappointments can ruin your plans, or you can simply choose to play with the cards you're dealt. The woman in line before me took 45 minutes to argue with the CSR about her cancelled flight and what they were going to do to make it right for her. She was unhappy with the result, and even chastised the CSR for not being as CS-oriented as she would have liked. Try having everything you say be questioned and not believed for 45 minutes, and see how CS-oriented you feel by the end. I almost yelled at the passenger myself.

So we'll revisit the visit in a day and pray for better weather. Good night!
